Another Day in Yellowstone

Thurs we drove to Roosevelt and hiked from the corral to the falls (5 miles round trip.) That night we had the Shake Down in the Mammoth dining room.  That's when the servers and cooks practice on us in the formal dining room the night before the hotel opens.  We are each (at the table) required to order a different entree, that gives the cooks practice with the different dishes.

This morning (Fri) we got up at 5:30 and hit the road for Lamar Valley at 6 a.m.  This is the best time for spotting animals.  We weren't disappointed, we saw: moose, grizzly, wolves and of course the usual elk and bison.   After lunch we took off for West Yellowstone to shop.

Here are pictures of some of the things we saw . . .

This girl had an itch!

Rolling helps with the itch

Feels soooooo good!

This guy also had an itch.  He scratched so hard he almost knocked the sign over!

It is very hard to spot moose in the park.  We were really lucky.

Spotting this wolf was exciting.

Bison on the hill

This wolf was thinking of attacking the calf but the mother had other ideas

Notice how she is protecting her calf

The wolf looks back trying to see if there is any chance of getting at the calf
