Nancy and I walked the stagecoach road to Gardiner tonight after dinner. It was a five mile walk. When we were almost there we came upon an elk. Since we were out in the open with nothing to hide behind we were a little leery. We climbed up on a ridge to avoid it. We hitched back with a couple of guys who had just finished a 22 mile hike from Hellroaring Creek to Gardiner.
