Saturday night we ate dinner early and started out on a hike of Beaver Ponds at 6:30. We started from the terraces and came around towards the dorm. When we got to the ponds there was a bull elk with a six point rack on the trail. We were afraid to pass. He kept looking at us even though he wasn’t threatening. We couldn’t get around him because there were steep hills on either side. When he would approach we jumped behind trees and bushes. We finally got by when he became more interested in food instead of us. We didn’t get home until 9:45. It was pitch black by then, luckily we had a flashlight with us.
