This morning we left Coeur D'Alene for Flathead Lake in Montana. We took the scenic route over Thompson’s Pass. We actually got lost at one point and went into a “camp” where we asked a woman for directions.
After we got over the pass we saw a cougar walking along the road. We stopped, got out of the car and tried to take a picture. Some man came along in his car and told us to be very careful, he said a cougar killed a couple of cats from his neighbor’s porch last night. We didn’t see it again and never got a picture but it was big and BEAUTIFUL.

We got to Flathead Lake around 3:00 and started up the east side after buying some cherries. It was such a beautiful drive. We arrived in Big Fork expecting to spend the night but there wasn’t a room to be had. We began to panic. We called Kalispell and found a room there. When we secured one we turned around and went back to Big Fork to spend the rest of the afternoon and part of the evening. Big Fork is a darling “artsy village.” We just loved it. Plus we met Diana, one of the local portrait artists who is married to Charles. Get it, Diana and Charles. We had a long chat with her. Everyone was really nice. Tomorrow we head on to White Fish.

Only in the west!
